Kalsubai, at 1,646 m (5,400 ft), is the highest peak in Maharashtra — the "Everest of Maharashtra." This moderate night trek starts in the small hours so you climb the 6 km trail in the cool dark and reach the summit for sunrise.
The route rises through paddy fields, a forest section and a final rocky stretch capped by five iron ladders bolted to near-vertical rock. The trail has installed lighting, but a headlamp is mandatory as backup.
The summit rewards you with a 360-degree sunrise over Bhandardara backwaters, Ratangad, Harishchandragad, Alang, Madan and Kulang, plus the Kalsubai Devi temple at the top.
