Ratangad is the 'Jewel of the Sahyadris' — a 4,255 ft fort built in the 14th century and captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1647, named after Goddess Ratnabai. Its most iconic feature is the Nedhe, or Eye of the Needle — a natural rock hole that perfectly frames Bhandardara's Arthur Lake far below. The fort has four gates — Ganesh, Hanuman, Konkan and Trimbak Darwaja — along with ancient water cisterns, rock-cut caves and the Ratnabai Devi shrine at the summit.
This same-day trek starts with an overnight journey to Ratanwadi village, home to the 1,000-year-old Amruteshwar Temple, followed by a few hours of rest before a first-light ascent. You'll pass through the 600-year-old Ganesh Darwaja, climb to the Nedhe for one of Maharashtra's finest viewpoints, and reach the summit plateau for 360° views of Kalsubai, Alang, Madan, Kulang, Harishchandragad and Sandhan Valley — before descending and heading home the same evening.
