Sandhan Valley is a dark, narrow canyon near Samrad village in Ahmednagar, carved by water over centuries — 200-foot walls standing so close together that daylight barely reaches the floor. Known as the Valley of Shadows, it's rated among Asia's largest canyons at roughly 2 km long. On this trip you walk its narrow corridors, wade shallow water pools, scramble over boulders, and rappel down the iconic 100 ft rock face at the canyon entry with a certified guide.
From the canyon, it's a short drive to Bhandardara's Arthur Lake — a reservoir formed by the 1910-built Wilson Dam on the Pravara River, ringed by Sahyadri hills. Tents are pitched by the water's edge for the night: sunset over the lake with Kalsubai peak and Ratangad fort visible across the water, a bonfire with music and games, an unlimited vegetarian dinner, and stargazing over a lake so still it doubles the night sky. The next morning brings sunrise over the water, breakfast lakeside, and a choice of Randha Falls, the Wilson Dam viewpoint, or a gentle lakeside walk before heading home.
